Biography

Dr Lucy Lowe is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Social Anthropology and the Deputy Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Medical Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh. Her work lies at the intersection of reproduction and migration, focusing on how Somali women make reproductive decisions within contexts of forced and continual migration. This research seeks to shed new light on women’s experiences as refugees and migrants, and the significance of mothers within transnational kinship networks. She is particularly interested in the ways in which reproductive decisions and technologies are engaged locally within and between multiple diaspora communities.
